18 month ⛵ adventure

30.000 KM / +20 COUNTRIES / 3500 HRS ON THE HIGH SEAS

In the past 18 months my co-captain partner and I sailed nearly 30.000 km along +20 countries on a 11 meter sailboat visiting the high Arctic archipelago of Svalbard, the Amazon of Surinam, the Caribbean, anchored next to the Statue of Liberty in NYC and explored the rugged wilderness of Canada, Greenland, Iceland and the Faroe Islands.

The longest time we spent on the ocean was an 18 day crossing from Cabo Verde in Africa to Surinam in South America.

While some people think a sailing sabbatical consists mostly of lounging around on a 🏝️ with a 🍹 in hand, the reality is just a bit different.

Years of planning and preparing the boat and ourselves, weather routing, managing water and electricity levels, fixing your boat with whatever spare parts you have lying around on board, weathering storms whilst keeping the morale on board high.

This voyage has taught me even more that curiousity, goal setting, flexibility, resourcefulness, trust and perseverance are equally important virtues on the high seas as they are on land.
